Crocodile Stitch (croc)
crocodile stitch is called the same thing in US and UK patterns, and kurokodairu-ami in Japanese ones. Written as croc in patterns.
Overlapping scales formed by working fans of double crochet around the posts of a V-stitch base, one facing up and one facing down.
The Japanese name クロコダイル編み (kurokodairu-ami) literally means "crocodile knitting (loanword)".
